Match report.
Yorkshire U13 229-7 (Noah Kelly 120*) beat Cumbria U13 107ao by 122 runs
After last weeks first fixture against Wales was postponed until early August because of the weather, this Sunday Yorkshire U13's made the long journey to Penrith CC to play their first fixture in the Northern Counties Cup against Cumbria U13's.
Losing the toss, Yorkshire U13's were asked to bat on a green, uneven looking track. Captain, Noah Kelly opened with Rohan Ratnalingam. Both batsmen put away the lose deliveries and ran excellently between the wickets. The introduction of spin brought the demise of Ratnalingam for 22 (off 35 balls) with the score on 46. That brought Sabir Mahmood to the crease. Both Kelly and Mahmood showied their class, putting the bad balls away with some classy drives, cuts and pulls until Mahmood was run out for 22 (39) with the score on 90. Thomas Burton came to the crease, and after a slow start, started forcing the pace. Coach Rafique set the boys a challenging target of 100 in the last 15 overs. Kelly passed 50 and Yorkshire had reached 145 when Burton played a rash shot, resulting in him being bowled for 19 (27). Joe Pyrah, promoted from the Development team, kept Kelly company, knocking the ball around. However, he fell quickly trying to up the rate. Jack Redshaw looked good until he was bowled by one that kept low and Josh Hen-Boisen kept the score ticking until he was caught with a couple of overs to go. Kelly completed a well constructed 100 off 124 balls (continuing his Regional form), and with some late hitting and quick running, Yorkshire finished on an above par 229-7 in their 45 overs – one run short of Coach Rafique’s target!
In reply, Cumbria U13's got off to a steady start against a quick new ball partnership of Finlay Hill and Louie Owens. Owen's made the early breakthrough with an impressive yorker and some good fielding resulted in a run out. William Hallowes, Joshua Hoyle and Hamish Firth (1-14), all on debut, bowled economically without much luck. The introduction of Josh Hen-Boisen (2-6) and then Jack Redshaw (2-5) as well as some good ground fielding and another run out saw Cumbria collapse from 77-2 to 88-9. Some late hitting, saw Cumbria past 100 before Thomas Burton took the second of two cheap wickets and Yorkshire completed a resounding 122 run victory.
A good all round batting, bowling and fielding display. Next week sees Yorkshire U13's host Nottinghamshire U13's at Castleford CC and probably a much tougher game.
