ECB Safe Hands.
DBS Verification
As you are aware the ECB implemented video ID checks to allow for the continuation of DBS applications during this time. Currently, we have a bottle neck of applications awaiting ID verification and as a result there is a risk that many of these applications are reaching the 3-month time limit, meaning individuals will have to restart the application again and/or will not be appropriately checked for when we return to cricket.
We have identified a potential issue on Atlantic Data Find an ID verifier tool, which means that many of you may not show up when an applicant does a search.
In order to resolve these issues, please could we ask you to do the following:
• Log into Atlantic Data
• Click on settings icon in top right of screen – spanner/screwdriver
• Select Edit Details
• Check that your postcode is completed – if box is empty please complete and save
Safe Hands Webinars
Further to our initial communication regarding Safe Hands training we are now able to share with you details regarding the temporary replacement of the face to face Safe Hands training course.
All Club Welfare Officers either new to their role or due for renewal between 1st March 2020 and 31st July 2020 should complete the free, online Safeguarding Young Cricketers course (SYC). We will arrange access for them in due course. For those that have already completed the SYC course for another role, there is no requirement for you to repeat the SYC Course.
To cover the additional learning required for the role we are creating a webinar, depending on requirements, for those either new to the role or as a refresher for those continuing in post. We are currently working with various ECB departments to conduct a pilot.
This alternative accreditation will be valid for 12 months by which time we hope that the standard face-to-face Safe Hands training will be available again.
Please ensure that you have updated all your courses on the ECB database to accurately reflect which courses your County Board has run and who attended.
This is very important as it will greatly assist in identifying who needs access to the webinars. A report of this data will be generated so your records need to be as accurate as possible.
Updated Templates
As part of the ECB Safeguarding Team’s strategy to raise standards across the game, we have started some work on updating the safeguarding resources which are downloadable on the ECB Website.

• Template – Roles and Responsibilities matrix
• Template – Welcome Letter for parent/carer
• Template – Welcome Letter for Young Person
New Reporting Form
We have created a new reporting form (attached) and guidance notes to assist Club and County Welfare Officers in reporting any concerns to the ECB Safeguarding Team. This form will standardise information required when making a referral to the team and provide consistency across the cricket network. The guidance notes which accompany the reporting form are there to support you to feel confident in reporting a concern.
Any completed forms should be sent directly to safeguarding@ecb.co.uk and a member of the team will be in contact.
