for County Age group teams.
Another successful week for the Yorkshire County Age group sides with the U15 Development side fixture the only one to fall foul of the weather:
Yorkshire U13A did the double over Warwickshire in two T20 games played on Sunday 9th July at King Henry’s School, Coventry.
Match 1
Warwickshire batted first. Wickets fell steadily to the Yorkshire bowlers but hard hitting opener Sachin Dubb scored freely to make 48 from 39 balls including six 4s and 2 sixes. He eventually fell to an excellent catch from Alex Cree on the boundary off Clarke Doughney’s bowling with the score on 67-4 in the 11th over. The middle order fought hard to put runs on the board and eventually took the score to 130-7 in their 20 overs. Spinners Clarke Doughney (2-15) and Jack Young (2-23) were the pick of the Yorkshire bowlers with Noah Priestley and Harry Watkinson both taking a wicket.
In reply, Matthew Weston and Olly Lamb opened the batting for Yorkshire and put on 76 before Olly was out for 32 in the 13th over. Harry Christy (pictured)then joined Matthew at the crease and together they took the score to 113 before they were both out, Harry for 13 and Matthew for 50. Another 2 wickets went cheaply before George Horbury and Harry Watkinson guided the team to 131-5 on the penultimate ball of the game giving Yorkshire a win by 5 wickets.
Match 2
Yorkshire batted first in this game. The batting was opened by Noah Priestley and Alex Cree who put on 26 in the first 5 overs before Noah was out for 15. Alex Cree (28), Harry Christy (26) and Harry Allinson (36) all batted well and helped the team reach 133-6 in their 20 overs.
In reply, Warwickshire lost an early wicket in the 3rd over to Ben Walsh’s bowling but then accrued runs steadily reaching 90-3 in the 15th over. The next 6 wickets then fell for 30 runs mainly thanks to the bowling of Jack Young who finished with figures of 5-24 from his 4 overs. Joe Norbury and Harry Allinson both also made excellent run outs. Warwickshire finished their innings on 120-9 giving Yorkshire a victory by 13 runs and their second win of the day.
All the Yorkshire boys performed very well on the day and will all have benefited from the experience. Special mentions for the two U13A debutants – Clarke Doughney who has moved up from U13 Development and Alex Cree who has moved from the U12A team. They both made valuable contributions to both games.
Yorkshire’s Under-12 Development team made it two wins from two with a hard-fought 13-run triumph over Lancashire B at St Helens.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Yorkshire made a competitive 164 for five from their 40 overs. Harrison Knowles top-scored with 40, as each member of the top six reached double figures.Captain Julian Cane and Tate Miller both contributed 17 apiece, while Casper Stone boosted the final total with an unbeaten 21.
Lancashire’s reply stuttered to 13 for three, George Crowther taking two early wickets with the other coming via a run out. Fielding at point, Lachlan Doidge stopped a square drive before throwing down the stumps with a direct hit.The Red Rose wilted further, slipping to 93 for seven in the 26th over. A further two run outs hampered their cause, along with a wicket apiece for Isaac Coates and Lewis Brown. The hosts’ tail wagged to put the game back in the balance, though. With two overs to go, Lancashire’s requirement stood at 17 with two wickets in hand. However, Yorkshire held their nerve in the closing stages, Matthew Simms claiming a second wicket before Crowther returned to bowl the last man in the 40th over, meaning Lancashire were all out for 151 with a ball to spare.
The team will next be in action on Sunday, July 16, hosting Warwickshire B at West Bretton
Adding to the successful week were the Under 11s Development Team who overcame a Leicestershire U11s/12s side played at Barrow Town CC.

In reply, the Yorkshire bowlers restricted Leicestershire to 169 for 9 (40 overs)with the bowling of Alex Burton (2/16) & Rohan Ratnalingham (3/37) backed by outstanding Yorkshire fielding, especially in the last 10 overs, to secure a hard fought victory.
