Match report.
Yorkshire U13 175-3 (Noah Kelly 111*, Sabir Mahmood 26) beat Lancashire U13 173-7 by 7 wickets.
On winning the toss, Lancashire had no hesitation in batting first on a green but hard North Marine Road track in sunny Scarborough.
Lancashire lost their most prolific run scorer, Fonseka (10), playing on to Louie Owens, and fellow opener, Dobson (11) bowled by Jack Redshaw, leaving them 31-2. Thereafter, a recovery from Rocky Flintoff (41) – son of Freddie – and Prescott (44), took Lancashire to 122-2 after 36 overs. The Yorkshire bowlers bowled good lines and lengths, not allowing the Lancashire batsmen to take advantage of a fast outfield and short square boundaries. The dismissal of Flintoff and Prescott, combined with tight bowling all round meant the middle order struggled to force the pace. Lancashire finished on 173-7; Redshaw (2-21), Owens (2-22), Finlay Hill (1-28) and Josh Hen-Boisen (1-17) picking up the wickets.
In reply, Yorkshire tried a new opening partnership, with Noah Chapman accompanying captain, Noah Kelly. Chapman looked good but hit the fielders too often - eventually being run out for 7 with the score on 37. Jawad Akhtar (9) kept Kelly company until the score reached 66, then Sabir Mahmood came to the crease and the two combined in a solid 63 run partnership until Mahmood (26) hit a return catch to leg spinner Tarig. Meanwhile, Kelly passed fifty and then, in combination with Tom Burton (15*), headed quickly towards the victory target. Just before the target was achieved, Kelly went past his second century of the county season, finishing on 111*. His century was made up of elegant drives through both the off and leg side with exemplary placement.
Four wins out of five in the Northern Counties Cup. Next Sunday, Yorkshire travel to Cheshire; a victory going a long way to gaining them a place in the NCC Final in late August.
