to the finals -
Yorkshire Over 50’s maintained their seasons 100% record with victory against Sussex 50’ at the semi final stage of this seasons ECB competition.
Making the long journey to the Mayfield CC in East Sussex they were greeted by morning rain which threatened play for a period but relented at lunchtime enabling an delayed start to a reduced 37 over fixture.
Winning the toss and asking Sussex to bat first the visitors soon had Sussex in all sorts of trouble with success coming to all six bowlers used: the bowling being excellently supported by superb fielding. Stephen Booth (Collingham) (3/18), Rob Keywood (Warley) (2/19) and Kevin Watson (Brook Walton) (2/13) made life very difficult for all the home batsmen, only 3 of whom got into double figures as the side subsided to 77 all out in 35 overs.
In reply Kevin Bradley (Clifton) set about the bowling , racing to 52 in an opening partnership of 55 with Richard Sykes (Acomb) (17*). Colin Frank (Pickering) (4*) then joined Sykes to see the visitors to a comfortable victory by 9 wickets in 11.4 overs.
The victorious team (pictured with their supporters after the game)now face the winners of the other semi final between Staffordshire and Cornwall in the Final to be staged at Kibworth CC , Kibworth Leicester (LE8 0HG)on Sunday September 6th 11:00am start. All support would be very welcome.
