Warwickshire U13 253-6 beat Yorkshire U13A 190 all out (Sabir Mahmood 58, Noah Chapman 31) by 63 runs
Yorkshire U13s made the long trip down the M1 to Harborne CC in the centre of Birmingham to play a strong Warwickshire U13s.
Warwickshire had no hesitation in batting first on a good looking wicket and fast outfield. The Warwickshire batsmen took charge from ball one, using the pace of the ball against the new ball pair of Finlay Hill and Louie Owens. Owens removed opener, Arman Dubb, with the score on 30, but number 3, Mukund Raghavan batted confidently to score a well made 56, using his feet well against the Yorkshire spinners. George Maddy, son of former Leicestershire CCC, Warwickshire CCC and England player, Darren Maddy, then accelerated the scoring, hitting a powerful 60 not out, combined with support from Mohammed Shaikh (32). Warwickshire finished on an above par 253-6 in their 45 overs. Joshua Hoyle (2-37) and Thomas Burton (2-29) were the most economical and effective bowlers.
In reply, Yorkshire struggled against the pace of Finlay Hatton, who had the Yorkshire openers, Noah Kelly and Rohan Ratnalingam, ducking and weaving. The batsmen focused more on survival rather than run scoring. Kelly (12) was removed, bowled for the second week on the trot. Owens (11), given a chance to bat up the order, never really got going. Yorkshire struggled at 55-2 at drinks after 22 overs. Ratnalingam fell soon after drinks for 21, quickly followed by Jawad Akhtar, leaving Yorkshire on 69-4. Burton (5) tried to accelerate the scoring rate before being well caught at mid on. This brought Jack Redshaw to the crease. Combining with Sabir Mahmood, the two showed intent; running between the wickets combined with intermittent boundaries. Redshaw, while looking very good, was then well caught at deep mid-on for a quick fire 24. Noah Chapman again batted well for 31, while Mahmood eventually started to accelerate, hitting 4 sixes in a season’s best 58. Yorkshire were eventually bowled out in the final over for 190. A decent score having been 55 at the half way mark. However, plenty of lessons to be learned.
Warwickshire won by 63 runs, outplaying Yorkshire with both bat, ball and in the field. Hopefully, a return fixture in August will see the result reversed.

Yorkshire U13 246-8 (Noah Kelly 92, Jawad Akhtar 55, Noah Chapman 26) beat Leicestershire U13 237 all out (Jack Redshaw 3-24) by 9 runs.
On Thursday, Yorkshire U13s travelled to Ratcliffe College to play Leicestershire U13s, hoping for a much improved performance.
On winning the toss, Yorkshire batted first with captain, Noah Kelly, and Rohan Ratnalingam opening up. Ratnalingam (5), Jack Redshaw (4) and Sabir Mahmood (0) all fell to balls that kept low, leaving Yorkshire on 51-3. However, Kelly looked back in form and, combined with Jawad Akhtar's first score of the season, took Yorkshire past 100. The two boys combined in a 107 run partnership, taking the score to 158 before Akhtar fell for 55. The middle/late order all chipped in with useful runs. Kelly fell for 92, agonisingly close to his second county century of the season. However, Yorkshire closed on 246-8 with Noah Chapman (26), Hamish Firth (16), Finlay Hill (6*) and Louie Owen's (10*) all contributing.
In reply, both opener bowlers, Hill and Owens, struck early, leaving Leicestershire 39-2. However, Henry Redmayne (78) and Liam Tew (31) dug in and started to play shots all around the wicket, being especially severe on Joshua Hoyle and Hamish Firth. The introduction of Redshaw (3-24) saw the scoring slow and resulted in the breakthrough with Redshaw taking three quick wickets. Leicestershire again rebuilt, however runs became harder to come by as Josh Hen-Boisen (2-36) bowled his left arm spinners. Runs kept ticking over but wickets also kept falling. The reintroduction of pace ultimately changed the game as Owens (2-20) and Hill (2-36) finished off the tail, Leicestershire finishing an agonising 9 runs short on 237 all out with 2 overs left.
A much improved all round performance from the Yorkshire U13 boys, with the captain leading by example with the bat and the three main seamers showing their worth.
