Match report.
Yorkshire U11A vs Wales U11, held at Rydal School, Colwyn Bay, on Sunday 24th June 2018.
Yorkshire 248/7 (Owen Smith 69, Jack Diffey 47*, William Cross 34*) beat Wales 124 all out.
Yorkshire U11A started their campaign with a trip to Rydal School, Colwyn Bay. Given the hot temperature and the superb looking wicket, skipper Owen Smith had no hesitation in deciding to bat after winning the toss.
Abbass and Burch started well, with early boundaries before Abbass departed on 11. Burch continued to score freely, along with Fraine, who’s first three shots all flew to the boundary. At 40 for 1, Wales introduced spin to a receptive wicket and suddenly had Yorkshire 63 for 5. Up stepped skipper Smith; who used his feet well against spin and calmly built a superb innings of 69, supported by Ainley. Smith and Ainley built a partnership of 80 as Yorkshire started to take control of the game. In the last 9 overs, Cross 34* and Diffey 47* really took the game to the opposition with a 78 run partnership, including 50 in the last 5 overs as Yorkshire finished on 248 for 7.
Wales found it difficult to build any momentum as Yorkshire’s opening bowlers Taylor and Ainley both took wickets in their 2nd overs. Three run outs (Ainley with one and Taylor with two bullet throws from deep cover) in a superb fielding display meant that Wales struggled to get anywhere near the required run rate. Ainley and McFarlane took the last 2 wickets to cap off a superb performance.
