- back to winning ways at Durham.
Yorkshire U12 Development side got back to winning ways as they recorded a well-deserved victory against Durham at Hetton Lyons cc on Friday 4th August.
The visitors were invited to bat and despite suffering an early setback as Sam Spenceley was caught for 0 in the third over, Julian Cane and Archie Haddon put on 42 for the second wicket.Haddon eventually departed for 14, but Harrison Knowles got stuck into the Durham bowling with some lusty blows. Cane departed for a well-made 27 before a stand of 54 between Knowles and Matthew Simms for the fifth wicket kept the scoreboard ticking over. A well-judged catch ended Knowles’ stay at the crease but his innings of 42 was a major contribution to the overall score. With contributions from Simms (21) and George Crowther (13), Yorkshire closed on 158.
Crowther claimed the first wicket in Durham’s reply with a superb delivery that pitched on leg and hit off stump, while tight bowling by Simms – who bowled four overs for only two runs - kept the home side in check. Leg-spinner Gregor Fraser claimed a wicket in his third over as he and Lewis Brown (2-6) reduced Durham to 32 for four.A stand of 59 kept the game in the balance before Lachlan Doidge claimed his first wicket to slow down their run chase. A further wicket for off-spinner Doidge, plus one each for Haddon and Isaac Coates, allowed Crowther to return and wrap up Durham’s innings, Yorkshire winning by 19 runs in a hard-fought contest.
The War of the Roses part II is the next game for Yorkshire, as we host Lancashire at Clifton Alliance, York, on Wednesday 16th August
