Match report.
Yorkshire U13A v Warwickshire U13, held at King Henry VIII School, Coventry on Tuesday 14th August 2018.
Yorkshire 115-8 (Charlie McMurran 25) beat Warwickshire 114 all out (Joshua Hen-Boisen 4-12, Leo Diffey 4-20) by 2 wickets
Yorkshire travelled to King Henry VIII School, Coventry, on Tuesday to play their final Northern Counties Cup fixture of the season against Warwickshire.
On a pitch resembling a wicket found in the Caribbean, Warwickshire didn't hesitate in batting first after winning the toss.
Leo Diffey (4-20) and George Crowther extracted some bounce. However, the ball kept low against the medium pacers and slow bowlers, making scoring difficult. Only an obdurate innings from wicket keeper/batsman Tom Mousley (41) made any impact for Warwickshire. As a result of the U13 Development team being on tour, Joshua Hen-Boisen from the U12s played, bowling some accurate left arm spin, extracting turn from a worn surface. For the second game, he emerged with four wickets.
Against bowlers of lesser pace, Alex Cree (12) got the innings off to a quick start before being adjudged LBW. Sabir Mahmood looked comfortable at the wicket, before the Warwickshire spinners took control, ripping out the middle order and leaving Yorkshire, at one point, 47-6, then 94-8! Thereafter, some fearless batting from Lachlan Doidge (22*), Charlie McMurran (25) and finally Hen Boisen (11*) led Yorkshire to a morale-boosting, 2 wicket victory.
Next week sees Yorkshire travel to Rainford CC (St Helens) to play two Twenty20 games in their final games of the season.
