Match report.
Durham U14 253-7 (George Crowther 3-40) beat Yorkshire U14A 171 all out (Isaac Light 47*, Will Nicholson 43) by 82 runs.
The fourth stop of the Royal London road trip saw the U14A team arrive at the fantastic Sunderland CC to face the unbeaten group leaders Durham. Spenceley continued his fine form at the toss making it 3 out of 3 with Durham opting to bat first on what looked a good batting pitch. Leo Diffey opening the bowling from the rugby stand end with an exceptional opening spell of quick swing bowling, causing constant problems to the opening batsmen and grabbing the first wicket, clean bowled. He was ably supported by Elias Smith at the other end but the Durham opener McKinney looked in ominous form early on. Caleb Bradford once again came on first change and bowled an excellent spell of spin bowling to restrict the Durham batsmen, posing a regular wicket taking threat and finishing with figures of 10-0-39-1. George Crowther followed with a fiery spell of quick bowling, showing great control and planning to his bowling as well as breaking the big partnership. However, McKinney still remained not out. Unfortunately, through the middle to late overs, some old habits from the Lancashire defeat crept into the performance with Durham taking full advantage, before the return of Diffey (10-2-39-1) and Crowther (9-0-40-3) closed the innings out by restricting Durham to 253 when it looked like it could be much more than that. A special mention to Durham's McKinney who played an outstanding innings for 115 - really anchoring the innings.
The reply got off to a stuttering start with Alex Cree run out for 12, Sam Spenceley and Alex Wood both edging behind for 7 and 13 respectively and Zak Jahangir getting a real gem of a delivery first up leaving the score at 68-5. Will Nicholson (43) played a patient innings, rebuilding from the loss of wickets before being joined by Isaac Light (47*) to begin to up the run rate. But unfortunately the damage had been done and the rate just put too much scoreboard pressure on the incoming batsmen, eventually seeing Yorkshire bowled out for 171 in the 47th over. Next up is two days in Warwickshire.
