YJCF & Joe Lumb 2020 Cancellation
"After much deliberation it was felt that the time has come to make a decision on this year's competitions. As outlined in the communication below from the Competitions' chairman, Derek Gregersen, the Management Committee has reluctantly decided to cancel the 2020 festivals" Andrew Clegg, Executive Secretary
"I am sure that everyone knows of the disruption that the corona virus has had on our lives and sport in general. It will therefore come as no surprise that reluctantly we have to inform you that the 2020 seasons Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival and Joe Lumb competitions have been cancelled.
This decision has not been made without a great deal of thought. Alternatives have been considered but at the basis of making this decision is the fact that we as a Committee have a duty of care towards not only the children participating but the parents, competition officials, umpires and others being involved in the games some of whom are in the vulnerable class themselves.
The ECB continue to advise on when the recreational game will start and the position is at present that it will continue to be suspended indefinitely until further notice. This advice is to be reviewed on 28th May. It is our opinion that the key to any advice on the COVID-19 virus centres on social distancing . This certainly gives problems towards running the YJCF and Joe Lumb competitions in so far as parents have to give lifts not only to their own children but others within the team also. This makes travelling impossible without contravention of the social distancing advice. In addition it is likely that the availability of grounds may be problematic as well as the availability of players due to parental concerns or club commitments.
I am sure that you will understand our decision which is based on looking after everyone involved in the game. We will progress and hopefully we will be able to enjoy cricket next year."
Derek Gregersen, Competitions' Chairman
Please note a decision on Yorkshire Regional Cricket will be made at a later date.
