Match report.
Yorkshire U13A v Staffordshire U13, held at Castleford CC on Wednesday 25th July 2018.
Yorkshire 108-5 (Alex Cree 58*) beat Staffordshire 106 all out (Leo Diffey 3-8) by 5 wickets.
Last Wednesday, Yorkshire U13s hosted Staffordshire U13s at a sun drenched Castleford CC.
Winning the toss, Staffordshire elected to bat first on a good looking wicket which looked like it would offer the spinners plenty of assistance. However, from the moment the first ball was bowled, Yorkshire took control of the game with their most disciplined performance of the season so far. All the bowlers bowled with improved accuracy, which was well supported by a more clinical fielding performance. Leo Diffey (3-8) was the pick of the bowlers but everybody showed an improvement in executing their skills, resulting in Staffordshire scraping to 106 all out in 40.2 overs.
After the interval, Alex Cree took control of Yorkshire's reply with a solid 58* in 99 balls. Sam Spenceley (15), Diffey (13) and Lachlan Doidge (14*) all chipped in and supported Cree as Yorkshire romped home with 12.4 overs to spare and kept their hopes alive of reaching the Northern Counties Cup final in late August.
Many thanks to the officials on the day and Castleford CC for the use of their ground and hospitality.
Yorkshire U13s now go on a short tour to our capital city where they will play Kent and Essex in different formats of the game.
