Match report.
Yorkshire U13A 177-5 (Rohan Ratnalingam 62, Noah Chapman 38) beat Nottinghamshire U13 116 all out by 61 runs.
After winning the toss, Noah Kelly had no hesitation in batting first at Castleford CC.
Kelly and Rohan Ratnalingam got off to a confident start, putting away the bad balls and running well between the wickets. With the score on 32, Kelly (16) got a good delivery which brought Sabir Mahmood to the crease to accompany Ratnalingam. Mahmood (21) was just finding his feet when a rash shot resulted in him hitting an uppish drive to short cover. A mini collapse saw Tom Burton run out and Jawad Akhtar caught and bowled, leaving the score on 70-4. Jack Redshaw (21) started to repair the damage and took the score to 105 before being bowled, leaving Yorkshire in a precarious position at 105-5. Noah Chapman, on debut, looked initially nervous. However, in partnership with Ratnalingam, the pair blossomed, knocking the ball around and running well between the wicket. The pair batted until the end of the innings with Ratnalingam (65*) anchoring the innings and Chapman finishing unbeaten on 38* - Yorkshire finishing on 177-5 in their 45 overs.
In reply, Finlay Hill and Louie Owens opened up with some pace - Owens making the early breakthrough. Nottinghamshire then counter attacked before Owen's dismissed the Notts captain with one that kept low and pinned him in front. Thereafter, some lackluster fielding combined with some inspired moments of brilliance brought the demise of a strong Notts outfit. Redshaw (1-13), Josh Hoyle (2-26), Josh Hen-Boisen (1-18) and Thomas Burton (2-8) all bowled well, combined with two direct hit run outs meant Notts were bowled out for 116 in 31.5 overs.
A very good win. Next week sees Yorkshire make the long trip to Birmingham to play a strong Warwickshire U13 outfit in their third Northern Counties Cup match.
