Match report.
Yorkshire U13A v Lancashire U13, held at Burnley CC on Monday 16th July 2018.
Lancashire 122 all out (Alex Wood 3-4) beat Yorkshire 87 all out by 35 runs.
Upon making the relatively short trip over the Pennines, Burnley CC was shrouded in mist and drizzle. With a disappointing weather forecast, it was agreed to postpone the ESCA Northern Counties Cup fixture and play a Twenty20 game instead.
Winning the toss, Yorkshire elected to bowl first. George Crowther struck with the first ball of the game while Leo Diffey bowled with pace and accuracy from the other end. Wickets kept falling, with Crowther picking up another and Diffey one. Lancashire recovered through the hitting of South African born Darren Low and a score of around 150 looked possible. However, Elias Smith with 2-22 and Alex Wood 3-4, pulled the score back, with Lancashire finishing on a below par 122 all out in 19.2 overs.
In reply, and with the sun cracking the flags, Yorkshire began hesitantly, losing openers Smith and Alex Cree, along with Lachlan Doidge, with the score just into double figures. Wickets kept falling on a regular basis as the innings never gained any momentum; Matthew Hood top scoring with 16.
Many thanks to Burnley CC (home to Jimmy Anderson) for their hospitality. A much improved performance is needed when we host Lancashire in the cup in early August.
