Sunday 1st September 2019 - Derbyshire U14 v Yorkshire U14A (ECB Royal London) at Clifton CC
Yorkshire U14A 305-7 (Noah Kelly 109, Alex Cree 63) beat Derbyshire U14 140 all out (Will Chapman 3-25, Charlie McMurran 2-18, Lachlan Doidge 2-19) by 165 runs
The final fixture of the season saw a winner takes all match between the U14As and Derbyshire U14s; with the winner qualifying for the national competition the follow year. Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bowl first. Noah Kelly fresh from his winning knock last week for the U13s in the county cup final strode out alongside Alex Cree and both immediately set about their work, putting on an outstanding 161 run opening partnership before Cree fell for a run-a-ball 63. Sabir Mahmood joined Noah Kelly and kept the scorecard ticking along before Kelly brought up his 6th CAG century of the season; going past 1000 CAG runs for the season, which is an exceptional achievement, before eventually falling for 109 to leave his average for the season at 103.10. Doidge and Spenceley added some impetus towards the end of the innings with Yorkshire closing on an impressive 305-7.
Charlie McMurran set the standard for the second innings, once again impressing with the new ball, returning figures of 2-18 from his 6 overs. The introduction of spin continued to apply scoreboard pressure to the Derbyshire batsmen which eventually proved too much as they were bowled out for 140, with Will Chapman (3-25), Lachlan Doidge (2-19) and Caleb Bradford (1-29) all impressing. The bowlers were backed up by some excellent fielding to finish the season on a high, putting all three facets of the game together in a faultless performance for the first time in the season. The win meant that Yorkshire took the last spot in the national cup qualification for 2020.
