Match report.
Yorkshire U15 Development 257-9 (George Barden 56, Sam Meadows 36, Joe Harrison 29, James Blackburn 29) beat Warwickshire U16B 232-8 (Alfie Spencer 3-29) by 25 runs.
With Yorkshire winning the toss and batting on a St George's Road pitch that looked to favour the batters, a high score looked necessary on a partly sunny sunny day in Harrogate. Yorkshire's opening pair of Blackburn and Meadows reached 56 at just under 5 an over before the hard hitting Meadows was trapped leg before to Treasure for 36. Blackburn was joined by Barden who saw the score approach 100 before Blackburn was bowled by the off spin of Greaves for one of his three dismissals. Wickets fell with regularity as Warwickshire claimed the wicket of Barden for 56 and, with 10 overs remaining at 181-6, the hosts looks to be heading for a score well below par. With some positive running and aggressive late order batting, particularly from Harrison (29) Yorkshire posted 257-9 from their 50 overs. The visitors attack was nobly led by the effective and controlled off spin of Rogers-Collen who returned excellent figures of 5-37 from his 10.
Warwickshire's response was slow due to a disciplined opening partnership from Shinwari and Didguinaitis, who went for 23 in the opening 12 overs. This placed more pressure on the batters to increase the pace and when Spencer's off spin replaced Shinwari, two quick wickets saw Warwickshire at 49-2 and behind the pace. With Spencer's 10 overs going for 29 (3-29), the runs had to come from elsewhere and a partnership was needed. With the rate going up to almost 7 an over, an excellent partnership between skipper Page (with a dashing 66 at more than a run a ball) and Treasure (unbeaten on 45) was too late to get Warwickshire over the line and they fell short on 232-6. Late wickets for Blackburn (2-47) continued the trend of 16 of the 18 wickets to fall all going to spin.
