Match report.
Yorkshire U15 Development 122-3 (James Blackburn 44*, Jack Oakley 38*) beat Warwickshire U16B 121 all out (Harry Dawson 5-26) by 7 wickets.
Yorkshire U15 Development travelled to Earlswood CC hoping to start their campaign with a win after weather had curtailed their previous fixtures. On a used pitch, captain Jasper Male lost the toss as Warwickshire chose to bat. A good tight opening bowling spell, with Max Didgiunaitis in particular impressing, saw Warwickshire at 41-3 at drinks. The home team batters found it hard to build partnerships of any note with only Saif Ali Mahmood showing any resistance, with a patient and impressive 23, before he was bowled by Harry Dawson’s leg spin. The ground fielding and bowling continued to be excellent with Lewis Hogg and Joe Harrison providing solid seam back up. Wickets fell regularly as Warwickshire couldn’t play the leg spin of Dawson who finished with excellent figures of 5-26 from his 7 overs.
In reply Yorkshire made a solid start before Meadows (22) fell to a catch at mid-wicket from the impressive off-spin of Rogers Collen (2-19), with 41 on the board. Soon followed the quick dismissals of Barden and Mindham, Yorkshire were 45-3 and in need of a partnership. They found it in the shape of James Blackburn, who batted with maturity and touch, and Jack Oakley with power, particularly when driving through the off-side. Blackburn batted the whole innings for a superb 44* and, combined with Oakley's 38*, saw Yorkshire home by 7 wickets in the 35th over.
